It was one of those Unforgettable sessions, Early December 2000. Saturday, 9 O'clock at Porlock Weir in Somerset, it was a fabulous morning, still, crisp and sunny with a fabulous swell. We grabbed the shot below whilst getting changed. There were only two guys in the water having the waves of choice but they had been in since 7am and promptly left. The tide was still quite high so Porlock was backing off a little. The water was fine after a mild autumn, no gloves or hats, the Sun really did the business in the no-wind glassy conditions making the usually brown water appear almost blue. As the tide dropped the wave hollowed and really started to suck, short barrels on every wave, waits between the sets and the middle waves being missed because we just couldn't get back out fast enough. Ricky excelled in his wave selection as usual and had more than 20 perfect waves. By 11am the swell died as the tide disappeared but we had our fill and tripped back into Porlock village for a Fried breakfast, what a day! |
