The
MobiDesk is a temporary "swing" table designed for use in passenger
automobiles.
In most cases this table will be fitted in the front passenger foot well
of a car, the instructions are written for this case but could equally
well be applied elsewhere.
A competent DIY person can do this or a garage fitter/mechanic could follow
the instructions inside 25 minutes.
Tools required:
Craft Knife
Posidrive Screwdriver
Drill & 3mm Drill bit
Spirit level
Fitting
this desk causes negligible alterations to your automobile and is completely
reversible.
1)
Select Base mounting spot
Postion the passenger seat to the rearmost setting on their runners, to
give the desk user the deepest leg room & table swing space
Use the single table leg tube; choose a place as far back and near to
the central transmission tunnel as is possible. Avoid floor pan on a slope
you need an area that is reasonable flat.
Check underneath the automobile for controls/pipes/wires near your spot,
you do not want to pierce or damage these. Garage mechanics would have
a hydraulic ramp to check under the car, DIY fitters could use the wheel
jack to get better underside access (Stay Safe, use secondary prop/axle
stand to make car safe)
2)
Mark & Cut carpet
Use our template to make an un-obtrusive "tri-cut" on your chosen
spot
Prise up the carpet edges and temporarily pin-back the "ears"
with duct tape
Carefully remove sound insulation/wadding in a small circle (10cm), expose
the bitumen covered steel floor pan, examine for controls/pipes/wires.
3)
Mark & Drill Floor Pan
Place Tube End socket and mark ready for drilling 3 holes. Carefully drill
3 holes without damaging any controls/pipes/wires.
Pre-screw the self-tapping screws to achieve easy threading
4)
Mix Putty & Screw down Tube end base socket
1) Use supplied rubber gloves to mix epoxy putty and press over the hole,
carefully shape the putty into a 10cm disc with a bias to compensate for
any floor pan slope, put black felt disc on-top of putty.
2) Quickly after putty placement, screw down the tube-end base socket
with enough pressure to "squish" the putty creating a good foundation,
at the same time use a spirit level against the Tube leg to measure for
verticality in two planes. Adjust 3 screws to achieve verticality.
3) You should leave the putty mounted tube end socket overnight to set
before actual table use.
4) Cut or clip-off excess screw tips from underside of car (keep your
garage mechanic safe from sharp pints)

5)
Saw Tube to length
The supplied tube is over-length @ 57.5cm to afford a height for every
application. It is most likely to be over-length for your automobile application.
Judge the correct height for your table surface and saw the tube to the
correct length, if unsure then gradually reduce length, the light alloy
aluminium is easy to cut.
Factors to consider when judging table height:
1) Access to glove box: Ensure that the table is positioned (usually higher)
that the glove box opening. Check that the pull handle and drawer can
still be opened under the desktop.
2) Leg Clearance: Leave 5-15cm gap above legs, space is important to allow
leg shuffle, air ventilation and ease with vehicle ingress/egress. This
factor varies according to individuals' dimensions.
3) Swing Operation: Check that the centre console and dashboard is easily
cleared by the fore aft swing of the table top. Fore aft swing is important
to allow table user ingress/egress whilst table is set-up
8)
Further adjustment
1) When the correct tube leg length is arrived you should cut away 3cm
of the plastic sheath to enable tube end insertion.
2) If you experience dashboard/console clash when swing the table and
the floor mounted tube end socket is fixed then you have a further adjustment
option in the table mounted tube end socket. Re-position the underside
location of the tube end socket to create better in-vehicle clearance
9)
Removal of MobiDesk Floor mount
1) Unscrew 3 screws and prise off metal end socket
2) Prise off putty from floor pan.
3) Plug screw holes, glue the carpet tri-cut together & cover with
secondary floor mat
